Background

Started match fishing as a youngster in local club events, mainly on the river Trent with occasional trips to the fenland rivers and drains. Have been fishing carp venues almost exclusively for the last 4 years or so and have enjoyed learning new methods and tactics. I am privileged to be sponsored by  G.O.T. Baits, not just because they are a top class range of baits but also the help and advice that is freely offered by the other G.O.T. anglers, many of whom are right at the top of the tree when it comes to pellet and paste fishing. Thanks lads.

Quick guide

Far Bank Canalized Venues.

Rig

Drennan carp 3 4x10 - 4x14
Silstar Match Team 0.12 - 0.16
Kamasan B911 size 18 - 14

If conditions allow I plumb up to fish dead depth, usually finding two swims a few metres apart of the same depth. Feed is a dry mix of fishmeal groundbait to kick start and regular  kinder cups of a few pellets and G/B. If there is no tow then I will feed 4mm G.O.T. expanders, when there is a wind and tow then feed the 4mm sinking feed pellets as these are less likely to be be moved out of the swim. For the hook I will start on the 6mm expanders but as the session goes on and the fish wise up it is often best to change to the 4mm expanders to make your hookbait blend with the loose feed rather than stand out against it. This is always the first line I fish on this type of venue, as the disturbance of anglers arriving and setting up drives the fish to the far bank shelf, and usually puts a few early fish in the net.
